Eco Design is a design approach with special consideration for the environmental impacts of the product during its whole life cycle.

The Half a Teaspoon® products have been designed not only to look good but have the environment in mind as well. Both the ShowerWatch and 321 Water are made using Eco Design principles.

Manufacture, use and disposal

Manufacture

  1. Selection of low embodied energy materials

  2. Minimal use of materials

  3. No adhesives used that may contaminate end of life recycling

  4. No metal fixing screws

  5. No gaskets / O-rings

  6. Lead free solder

Use

  1. Designed for maintenance (ShowerWatch has changeable cover, 321 Water has replaceable filter)

  2. Easy battery replacement

Disposal

  1. Designed for disassembly - e.g one twist and ShowerWatch is completely disassembled

  2. Single plastic type used so it can be recycled

  3. All components separate by hand

Local production

At Half a Teaspoon we have made a conscious decision to keep things local. Our products are manufactured and then assembled by hand in Australia.

  1.      We are making a positive contribution to the local economy with local production

  2.      We can oversee & ensure a sustainable manufacturing process

  3.      We minimise our carbon footprint by reducing freight miles in the transport of our product

Aesthetics

The soft, water-formed shapes of river stones inspired the rounded contours of the ShowerWatch. The ShowerWatch is inviting to the touch and feels natural in the 'cold' bathroom environment.

321 Water is both highly functional and very beautiful. Its simple plunger mechanism, in the form of a stylised tree, is a powerful environmental metaphor reminding us that every time we use it we are helping the environment.
