Design
Half A Teaspoon® addresses environmental issues with design.
The Half a Teaspoon® ShowerWatch has been designed not only to look good in your bathroom but with the environment in mind as well.
The soft, water-formed shapes of river stones inspired the aesthetics of the ShowerWatch. The ShowerWatch is inviting to touch and feels natural in the 'cold' bathroom environment where people prefer to be in contact with soft, caring surfaces.
Furthermore, the ShowerWatch has been 'Designed for Sustainability'. Sensible EcoDesign objectives have been applied, including:
Manufacture
- Selection of low embodied energy materials
- Minimal use of materials
- No adhesives used that may contaminate end of live recycling
- No metal fixing screws
- Elimination of gaskets
- Lead free solder
Use
- Designed for maintenance, changeable cover
- Easy battery replacement
Disposal
- Designed for disassembly - one twist and ShowerWatch is completely disassembled
- Single plastic type used so it can be recycled
- All components separate by hand
Awards
The ShowerWatch was a finalist in the 2006 Premier's Design Awards Victoria, in the category 'City of Melbourne Sustainability Design Award'.
Australian made
The ShowerWatch is Australian made using Eco Design Principles. At Half a Teaspoon we have made a conscious decision to produce the ShowerWatch in Australia where it is manufactured and then assembled by hand. We made this decision for a number of reasons;
- we are making a positive contribution to the local economy
- with local production we can oversee & ensure a sustainable manufacturing process
- we minimise our carbon footprint by reducing freight miles in the transport of our product
